Nestled in The Valley of the Sonoran desert awaits a water lover’s dream. With 23,000 acres of water and beautiful landscape, there isn’t much you and your loved ones can’t do. And if you’re not lucky enough to call the close by charming city of Peoria, Arizona home, you’ll never want to leave.

If you’re planning a visit to North Phoenix, here are some of the fun things to do with your family and friends at Lake Pleasant that will get you excited for the big trip.

  1. Camping. With the hustle of the world around us, sometimes it’s long overdue to plan an overnight stay at the lake in your tent or trailer. The Maricopa country parks offer two campsites to choose from, both offering on-site washrooms and picnic tables. Or, if you like to get off the beaten path, pick a secluded spot along the shore to set up camp. Don’t forget the marshmallows - and the fishing pole.

  2. Fishing. Lake Pleasant is home to a plethora of freshwater fish, from catfish to large-mouthed bass. Take a walk on the floating bridge or meet up for the popular night fishing events during the summer. Throughout the season you may be lucky to see one of the fishing tournaments that are held annually at the lake.

  3. Boating or Kayaking. Whether you’re looking to feel the tranquility that comes with being on the water, or you hope to catch the bigger fish that near the center of the lake, feel free to bring your boat to launch. Or, if you’ve brought a bigger group of friends there are also party boats and pontoons available to rent - or even catch a dinner cruise.

  4. Moonlight Scorpion Hunting. At night when the lake is serene and quiet,  join a guided tour hike of the desert by moonlight and blacklight to see if you can find any scorpions in their natural habitat. Don’t forget your camera because you’re about to make some memories you won’t want to forget.

  5. Wakesurfing. There’s nothing quite as exhilarating than feeling the fresh desert air fan your face while you ride the waves on a wakeboard. Haven’t tested the waters before? Feel free to reach out for rentals and experienced teachers who will help you cling to a new sense of adventure that you never knew you had - and who knew you’d find it here in Arizona?
